Literature Text

Is it Summer yet?
Is it warm, blue-skied, windy yet?
I want Summer now,
And I want countless lazy days,
And I want countless unforgettable days,
Theme park days,
Coffee shop days,
Poolside days.
Days of lying on the grass
In ill-fitted shorts
Next to friends that,
When I get out of here in four years,
I won't remember the names of.
Days of falling in love
With indie bands,
And bare-footedness,
And writing cheap poetry,
And nameless cute boys.
But then,
Like the thunderstorms that scare me,
The bags of candy that give me sugar-highs,
The laughter of friends that resounds in my breath,
Summer will end.
But it will not end quietly,
Will not simply cease to exist.
It will burn, like a bouquet of fireworks,
And will remain in those it touches.
So it will end, as all things do,
And school will come,
And suddenly all the troubles
I thought didn't exist
Will come and stare me in the face.
Title is a working title. Just the obvious thing to put in until I can think of something better.

This was an assignment for my survey workshop class a couple months ago. We were basically given free reign, as it was the last assignment of our poetry unit (we're on fiction now).
